Arts Umbrella’s dance programs are internationally recognized as training that develops the whole dancer, stressing technical strength, while embracing the importance of the intellectual and artistic elements of the art form. Dancers explore movement as artists, as athletes, as performers, as audience members and as future professionals. Graduates of the program have gone on to dance in professional companies including Ballet British Columbia, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Mannheim Ballet Theater, Ballet Dresden, Alvin Ailey II, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet , and Compagnie Marie Chouinard.
Founded in 1986 and led by Artistic Director Emily Molnar, Ballet BC is an internationally acclaimed collaborative and interactive contemporary ballet company that is a leader and resource in the creation, production and education of contemporary ballet. Bold and innovative, our company’s distinctive style and approach has helped the company make a unique and valuable contribution to the development of dance and art. Ballet BC presents a diverse repertoire of Canadian and International contemporary ballet and is a hotbed for the creation and performance of new works.

Inspiring young and mature dancers with the art of classical and cultural performing dance arts. We are passionate and committed to higher dance education. By building a strong technical foundation and providing mentorship to creative individuals with progressive training in a safe and healthy environment, we can reach out to all ages and levels of dance from recreational to professional. Outreach & international exchange programs are available. The director, Debbie Lee has been a part of the performing dance arts & education for 30+ years. Classes take place at The Dance Centre.
Linda Arkelian teaches Advanced Ballet/Pointe Class Saturdays 12-2pm. Open Contemporary Class Saturdays 3-4:30pm, Adult Beg. Ballet Class Tuesdays 7-8:30pm. Linda's dancing experience has been expansive and varied, having performed internationally with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Theatre Ballet of Canada, Anna Wyman Dance Theatre and the Judith Marcuse Dance Company. She was the recipient of a Canada Council grant in 1991. She is a Ballet Instructor at SFU and Lamondance. Linda is also an actor, artist and film maker. Her film collaborations with David Cooper have been screened internationally.

Pre-professional training program in the Russian (Vaganova) method.
Pro Dance’s curriculum is based on the Russian Vaganova Methodology issued by the Russian Ministry of Education and is offering ballet lessons for professional, recreational and adult students. Ciprian Stanulescu is the Artistic Director of the Company. He won first prize in national and international competitions in classical & contemporary dance and was ballet master to National Ballet Academy of Romania. He is a guest ballet master in North America. His students are winners in international competitions like YAGP, IBC from USA. His goal is to help dancers to reach their maximum potential.
From Hamilton Ontario, Stephana is a graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada. She danced with several small companies before being asked to join the National Ballet of Canada. In 1996, she joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal and quickly rose through the ranks to First Soloist. 2003 brought her to Ballet British Columbia where she danced a vast array of Principal roles and became one of Ballet BC’s Company teachers from 2004-09. An Award winning choreographer, Stephana will be teaching at the exciting Dance Conservatory in West Vancouver.
Vancouver Ballet Society
The Vancouver Ballet Society is a unique, non-profit organization committed to supporting and revitalizing dance through education and assistance. Founded in 1946 the VBS has been the only ‘umbrella’ dance organization in continuous operation in this province for over 60 years. VBS offers dance students exclusive Master Classes with some of Canada’s most prominent artists and companies, as well as a week long intensive workshop known as Spring Seminar, and scholarship funds. The Vancouver Ballet Society also publishes the acclaimed Dance International Magazine, which is distributed world wide!
