We have an office space available for lease from July 1, 2013. Features:

- Kitchenette with fridge and microwave across the hall
- Staffed reception area in the building’s main lobby for receiving mail and deliveries

- Seven studios available for rent, including fully equipped black box production studio seating 154

Announcing the Recipients of the Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award and the Isadora Award

April 30, 2013 - The Dance Centre is proud to announce Vanessa Goodman and Su-Feh Lee as recipients of the Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award and the Isadora Award, respectively. The Awards were presented by Executive Director Mirna Zagar on April 29, International Dance Day. Read more

February 25, 2013 - The eighth edition of the BC Dance Directory, a booklet published every two years which lists BC-based artists, companies, presenters, festivals, schools, resources, suppliers and more, is now available. Read it online or pick up a free print copy in our main lobby.

Call for Submissions for 2013-14 Dance Centre programs

October 1, 2012 - Dance artists are invited to submit proposals for Dance Centre programs for the 2013-2014 season, including Artist-in-Residence, Discover Dance, DanceLab, Dance In Vancouver, and International Dance Day. Note that Dance Centre membership is required to apply for most programs. Contact us for guidelines and information on how to apply.

Deadline for submissions: January 7, 2013.

Residencies In-Depth: Barbara Bourget's Solo Dance Project

September 11, 2012 - During her Dance Centre residency 2011-12, Barbara Bourget developed a new solo performance for herself with music by her son Joseph Hirabayashi, which premiered in June 2012. She also worked with a group of Vancouver dance artists (Tracy Dietrich, Gail Lotenberg, Josh Martin and Deanna Peters) in her Solo Choreography Workshop, where the participants came together once a month to examine the art of the solo and develop their own new pieces. These new solos were performed as part of the annual Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House on Saturday September 15, 2012. Prior to the September performances, Andreas Kahre interviewed Barbara about her work, the creative process, the project and the presentation, and each of the four participants provided their perspective on their experiences learning about the solo form. Announcing The Dance Centre's 2012-2013 season

July 17, 2012 - The Dance Centre’s 2012-2013 season presents a program of exciting performances and events by artists working across contemporary and cultural genres. The Global Dance Connections contemporary dance series features local choreographers as well as visiting artists from Europe and Asia, while the popular Discover Dance! noon series showcases a diverse range of BC dance. Other events include the annual Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House, International Dance Day, and ongoing residencies and research labs throughout the season. Read more

DVBIA Appreciation Award

June 14, 2012 - The Dance Centre was awarded the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association's 2012 Appreciation Award for Outstanding Organization. Announcing the recipient of the Santa Aloi Award

May 30, 2012 - The Dance Centre has announced virtuoso tap dancer Danny Nielsen as the recipient of the third annual Santa Aloi Award. The Award, valued at $4,500, is designed to assist choreographers to hire dancers to rehearse and perform new work.  The Award is made possible through the generosity of Michael Fellman in honour of Santa Aloi, a dancer and choreographer known for her poignant storytelling through tap, music and contemporary dance. Nielsen will use the Award to support the creation of a new full length work with an ensemble cast, scheduled to be performed at Scotiabank Dance Centre in fall 2012 and co-produced with the Vancouver International Tap Festival.

National Dance Week April 22-29

The Canadian Dance Assembly The Canadian Dance Assembly proudly presents the first ever National Dance Week leading up to International Dance Day as part of the “I love dance/J’aime la danse” National Campaign. Announcing the Recipient of the First Lola Award

March 2, 2012: The Dance Centre is delighted to announce that the recipient of the inaugural Lola Award is internationally-renowned BC choreographer Crystal Pite. The $10,000 award, established in memory of the much-loved choreographer Lola MacLaughlin, was presented at a performance of the LOLA Projects - a Victoria-based initiative also named in her honour - at Scotiabank Dance Centre on March 1, MacLaughlin's birthday.

Pite's award will support her next period of research in 2013, which comes after three years of intensive international touring and a residency in Germany for her company, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM. Read more
