Summer Dances: Thursday May 13, 2010

Summer Dances is a fun, elegant evening held annually at Scotiabank Dance Centre on Davie Street at Granville. The theme for this year's event is "Dancing Through Time" - an exploration of the social dances of the 1920's, 1930's. 1940's and 1950's - dances such as the Charleston, Foxtrot, Swing and Tap.

The Faris Family Studio Theatre is to be transformed into an underground dance club with twinkling star light, an art deco ambiance, silver tables for dining and socializing, jazz music and fabulous dance entertainment.

The affair begins at 6:30 pm with live music by the jazz combo, Sweetpea.  The incomparable Fred Lee will serve as our energetic Master of Ceremonies. Bidding on silent auction items will be open at this time along with a buffet dinner service and a bar featuring perfectly mixed, vintage style drinks and wine.

The evening is generously sponsored by Scotiabank with assistance from Peake of Catering, Rigamarole Winery and East Van Graphics.  The Keg Steakhouse and Bar is supplying professional bartenders.

Demonstrations of various popular dance styles will be performed by professional dancers associated with The Dance Centre, followed by an opportunity to learn one of the featured dances.  The festivities will wrap up with a brief live auction.

Tickets are available today online.  Simply indicate "Summer Dances" from the drop down box.  You may order individual tickets or reserve a table of 8 or 10 for yourself and your friends - just make a note in the comments section of your ticket order.
