Discover Dance! 2012-2013

Our popular noon series offers informative and inspiring shows by BC-based dance companies which combine performance, question-and-answer sessions with the artists, and sometimes even audience participation.

All performances start at 12 noon and last approximately 60 minutes, including artist talkback.

Our 2012-2013 Discover Dance! series has now finished. The 2013-2014 season will start in September: full details to be announced.

Aeriosa Thursday September 27

Aeriosa’s spectacular aerial dance shows bring together the athleticism of rock climbing and the grace and artistry of dance. Using rope rigging systems, the company creates three-dimensional performances that re-interpret gravity, and delight and inspire audiences. Choreographer Julia Taffe presents a program of theatre-based work and provides revealing insights into a unique dance genre. www.aeriosa.com

Ballet BC Thursday October 25

Bold and innovative, Ballet BC has developed a distinctive and highly acclaimed style, presenting a varied repertoire of contemporary ballets by Canadian and international choreographers which combine the rigour of classical technique with a cutting-edge approach. Introduced by Artistic Director Emily Molnar, the company’s superb dancers will perform excerpts from a brand new work by American choreographer Nicolo Fonte, which is scheduled to premiere in November.

South Asian Arts/Sticks n' Skins Thursday November 29

Join South Asian Arts, Uzume Taiko and Sambata - aka Sticks n' Skins - for an explosive performance of bhangra, and more! Originally a folk dance celebrating the harvest, bhangra has now surged in popularity worldwide, both in its traditional form and as a fusion with hip-hop, house, and reggae. Israel 'Toto' Berriel & Friends Thursday February 28

The vibrant rhythms and sounds of Afro-Cuban dance and music take the stage in an exciting program which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Africa and the Caribbean. This special presentation features an ensemble of dancers and musicians led by Israel ‘Toto’ Berriel, a renowned traditional Afro-Cuban percussionist and vocalist who has toured internationally. Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre Thursday March 28
